ARRAKIHS Milestones

The ARRAKIHS mission follows a carefully planned schedule to ensure success at every stage. Since its announcement by the European Space Agency in November 2022, we have made significant progress, with key milestones such as the completion of Phase A and the upcoming Instrument Systems Requirements Review in December 2024. The mission is expected to be launched at the end of 2030.

ARRAKIHS Roadmap: Milestones of the ARRAKIHS Mission Consortium are shown in white, while those under ESA's responsibility are highlighted in yellow.

Current status

On November 2, 2022, the European Space Agency (ESA) announced its new F-class space mission for its scientific program: ARRAKIHS, with its first objective to pass the phase 0/A/B.

In February 2024, we completed Phase A of the Payload Preliminary Requirements Review (iPRR). The next milestone for the ARRAKIHS Mission Consortium is the Instrument Systems Requirements Review (iSRR), scheduled for December 2024, marking the transition to Phase B.

In the first quarter of 2025, the Spacecraft Preliminary Requirements Review (SC PRR) will conclude Phase A. The Spacecraft Systems Requirements Review (SC SRR) will occur in the third quarter of the same year. ESA is the main responsible to the ARRAKIHS spacecraft.

The Mission Adoption is planned for mid-2026, following the successful completion of the Instrument Critical Design Review (iPDR) and the Spacecraft Preliminary Design Review (SC PDR).

After Mission Adoption, the ARRAKIHS mission will enter Phase C. During this phase, the consortium will focus on the Instrument Critical Design Review (iCDR) until January 2028. The Instrument Qualification and Flight Acceptance Review (iQFAR), scheduled for the end of 2029.

The Spacecraft Critical Design Review (SC CDR) and the Spacecraft Mission Adoption Review (SC MAR) are scheduled for the third quarter of 2028 and 2030, respectively.

The mission launch is planned for the end of 2030.

Past Milestones

In February 2024,  we completed an important step of Phase A with the Payload Preliminary Requirements Review (iPRR). The details and importance of achieving this milestone can be seen in the press-release.

Survey

ARRAKIHS will cover around 100 squared degrees of the sky orbiting Earth on a Sun-synchronous orbit passing over the same location on Earth at the same time of day.

Instrument

The spacecraft has two sets of binocular telescopes, consisting of two visible cameras and two infrared cameras. The instrument of the mission undergoes extensive research to fulfill its scientific objectives.

Organization

The ARRAKIHS Mission Consortium is a group of people, researchers and engineers, fundamentally organised along three crucial lines of operation: Instrumentation, Science and Instrument Operations and Science Data Center.
